Geomancy - Casting The Points>

Once you have chosen your method of casting the points (or sowing the seeds as it is sometimes known) it is time to make the cast and record your sixteen lines of points. Points should be recorded from right to left and without conscious thought as to total if you are following traditional methods. If you are using a different form of determining the number then simply record the totals for each line.

In the diagram above you can see that the sixteen lines have been split into four groups. If you count the points in line one they add up to thirteen. As this is an odd figure it is attributed one point which can be seen in the result column. The second line adds up to ten, which is an even number and hence gets two points in the result column. Lines three and four are totaled in the same way and attributed their respective points. This pattern of dots gives you the first figure needed - the "mother one" or M1 figure. The other three groups of four lines are treated in the same way until you end up with four mother figures, which should now be written right to left on a piece of paper as shown below.

The next four figures can now be determined. In the diagram above read (right to left) the points in the first line of all four mothers. Transpose these four sets of points vertically into the first daughter column. The second line of points is then read for all four mothers and similarly transposed to give you the second daughter. The third and fourth lines are similarly treated until you end up with all four daughters. You now have eight figures which should be written right to left as shown below.

Next, the four nieces need to be determined. Add together the number of points in the first line of mother one and mother two and you get three points. This is an odd number so one point is put on the first line of the first niece. Then add together the points on the second line and so on until you get the figure for the first niece. This process is repeated for each niece.

Once you have the four nieces use exactly the same totalling process to determine the two witnesses, and then the judge. The judge is used in the same way that an overall significator would be used in tarot. Now that you have all the necessary figures the chart can be interpreted.
