Ghost Hunting Terms


Digital Voice Recorder: A device used to record electronic voice phenomena.

EMF: Electromagnetic Field or Force. A change in the EMF registered on a meter can indicate the presence of a ghost.

EMF Meter: Electromagnetic Field or Force Meter. A device that can detect and register electromagnetic fields.

EVP: Electronic Voice Phenomena. A recording of the voice of a ghost.

FLIR: Forward Looking Infra-Red.

FLIR Camera: Forward Looking Infra-Red Camera. A video camera like device that shows a picture based on the infra-red rather than the visible spectrum.

FLIR Night Vision Goggles: Forward Looking Infra-Red Goggles. A device that shows a picture based on the infra-red rather than the visible spectrum.

IR: Infra-Red.

IR Thermometer: Forward Looking Infra-Red Thermometer. A laser device that measures temperature without physical contact.

Ghost: A displaced spirit that has not moved into the light and is bound to the physical realm.

Ghost Hunter: An individual who tries to detect the presence of a ghost.

Haunted: A place which has paranormal or ghostly activity.

Paranormal: Beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation.

Poltergeist: A ghost that has a tendency to move or throw things around.

Spike: A sudden increase in the reading being obtained from ghost hunting equipment.
