Private home off Highway 431 | This house is said to be haunted by one of the first owners. He was killed in an accident near the house and his wife sold the house after hearing unexplainable banging noises. Several families have heard the noises who have lived there since. | ||

Originally built as a Presbyterian Church, The Auburn University Chapel was used as a hospital in the Civil War and is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Confederate soldier. The ghost is said to be that of a British man, “Sidney” who had volunteered to fight for the South. He died from blood loss while his leg was being amputated due to a war injury. Sidney is said be heard walking all through the chapel, and can be heard, whistling in the attic and tapping his foot. The building is still in use by Auburn University. | ||

Bladon Springs Cemetery | A one-time steamboat captain, Norman A. Stapels, is said to haunt both the cemetary and the nearby river where he killed himself. His boat also exploded later after his death, and some think that the ghost was responsible for the explosion, where 25 people were killed as well as the new captain. He had been seen by crew members on the ship before it exploded, and has also been seen in the graveyard “looking after” the graves of his children. He appears to some people to be mourning or regretting his decisions he made in life. | ||

Sloss Furnace | Tales are told of a ruthless foreman at the furnace named Wormwood. At least 46 workers were killed under his watch. He fell into a pool of melted iron ore in 1906 and died. Many people thought the workers pushed him into the ore, as they were tired of him pushing them to take dangerous risks. More than 100 reports of paranormal activity have been made since, including an “evil or unnatural” presence , a night watchman who said he was pushed from behind – but he was alone, and a “half man-half demon” which was described by a night watchman in 1971. | ||

Old Bryce Mental Institute | This one-time mental hospital was used for more than 100 years and is now closed. Investigators and others report strange sounds including footsteps in empty rooms and hallways and banging on mental structures.
