Anchorage (Anchorage Bo.) |
Courtyard by Marriott Spenard Road |
It is said that Room 201 in this hotel is haunted by a man who died there and his body was not found for some time. A ghost that the locals call “Ken” is also said to wander the property and the courtyard, and has been seen in the gazebo. People have also reported seeing what appears to be a ghostly cat walking on the property, particularly in rooms 103 and 107.
Anchorage (Anchorage Bo.) |
Historic Anchorage Hotel 330 East Street |
This is apparently one of Alaska’s oldest hotels and several hauntings have been reported here. Many guests have reported the apparition of a young girl walking the upstairs hallway. In two rooms on the second floor the water in the bathroom sink and the bathtubs will turn itself on and off for no reason, as does the TV. Other reports have included employees seeing “people” walking down the stairs when the hotel is known to be empty.
Gakona (Valdez Cordova Co.) |
Gakona Lodge and Trading Post | The oldest buildings here are haunted by a spirit that is mischievous and is considered to be a “poltergeist” type. Doors get opened and closed, stereos are turned on or off, and sometimes doors are locked from the inside when there is “nobody there.” Footsteps are also often heard and sometimes the smell of tobacco smoke will fill the air when no one is smoking. Unexplained voices have been reported as well. Most of this takes place at night in the lobby and in the lodge rooms upstairs.
Ketchikan (Ketchikan Gateway Bo.) |
Ketchikan High School | A student fell in the theater from the catwalk to his death, and has been seen and heard, the story says, by nearly every student since then. He is said to be visible from the stage if you simply look straight up. The ghost’s nickname is “Bootchie.”
Skagway (Skagway Hoonah Angoon Co.) |
Golden North Hotel | Two ghosts are said to haunt rooms in this hotel. One has been named “Mary” by staff members who believe that she is the ghost of a lady who died in her room while her fiancé was off on a gold-prospecting trip. She is said to be seen in room 23 where full apparitions have been reported. Some guests have also reported the feeling of being choked at night in that room. Room 14 in this hotel is said to be haunted by an energy that appears as a strange light or orb that moves around the room.
