Many people say that they’ve seen the ghost of an elderly housekeeper floating around on the third floor of the building. She floats through walls, etc., and disappears. | ||

It is said that unusual occurrences here including the appearance of objects with no explanation are related to the Inauguration of President Calvin Coolidge. President Coolidge did not attend his Inaugural Ball held at the hotel because he was in mourning for the death of his 16 year old son. It is said that every year since 1937, also, the lights flicker and dim in the grand ballroom at about 10:15 p.m. every January 20, which is about the time President Coolidge would have arrived at the Ball. | ||
| Washington DC | The Octagon House | This building was erected in 1799 by Col. John Tahoe. It was used as the White House during President James Madison’s term. It is said that John Tahoe’s daughter became pregnant out of wedlock, and that she killed herself when she was told that her father had killed the father of her child. It is said that her ghost still haunts this house. Several other ghosts are seen here also on occasion, including those of slaves and Col. Tahoe himself. | ||

A large black cat known as “DC” (for “Demon Cat”) has been said to appear and disappear before several people’s eyes. Mostly it tends to strike when someone is alone. Some people say the cat’s appearance is a prediction of national tragedy. | ||
