The ritual cup (or chalice) performs quite different tasks to a tool such as the wand. It is used within the ritual Circle as a drinking device during personal and deity libations.

Traditionally it is made from silver which is the metal of the moon. This is quite an expensive option for most so it is not unusual to find plated cups or cups made from an entirely different material such as glass. Most times though you will find it to be made from a silver material.

Silver has however, been the choice of material since time immemorial. It is the practitioner's main choice. So although alternatives can be used (and with success) it is better to stick with tradition if possible and go for silver. Beginners in particular will benefit from silver as it is easier and more effective to work with.

A cup is one of the four main ritual tools for a Witch and so it is important to get the right one. Don't just "make do" with any old cup. Find one that is right for you and your rituals.
