SunShines: The Astrology of Being Happy Review:
Whether you are a practiced astrologer, or simply someone with a passing interest who is interested in self-improvement, SunShines: The Astrology of Being Happy is definitely a helpful and enjoyable addition to your library.
Michael Lutin is among the best living astrologers, and he writes thorough, interesting, explanations of the significance of the placements of the planets at our birth. Some of the information contained here can be emotionally challenging – but Lutin’s sense of humor and deft writing presents the material in a way that is not threatening, but is actually helpful.
Astrologically this book uses solar houses and south node positions to point to the pitfalls and obsessions that can be stumbling blocks for each of us as we’re reaching for happiness. I found his insights not only in his assessment of my personal challenges to be accurate but also for those of others whom I know and love.
But Lutin doesn’t open a wound and then walk away (that is, he doesn’t just expose our likely pitfalls and leave us hanging…) he points the way to some helpful techniques that actually can help bring us closer to happiness which, again, I found very compelling, helpful and insightful.
Michael Lutin was the astrology columnist for Vanity Fair for at least two decades, and he has published several other books; all of them worth reading. He also was a Phi Beta Kappa at Trinity, did special study in French language at Harvard, and began a PhD program at Yale, so obviously he is an educated man.
His writing is accessible, entertaining, and most of all, compassionate and useful. I think most readers will be glad that they purchased this book, and will find that they’ve learned a lot from it, both about themselves, and the others they use it to learn more about.
